Accessibility Statement for My Home, My Way website

The My Home, My Way website is part of NACBO, the National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations. NACBO is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. My Home, My Way is partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Measures to Support Accessibility

NACBO takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of My Home, My Way website:

  • Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.

  • Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.

  • Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.

  • Include people with disabilities in our design personas.

Accessibility Features

Some of the measures NACBO has taken to make the My Home, My Way website and content accessible include:

  • ensuring Link text isn’t generic, like “read more”, but gives relevant information about the link

  • all photos have alternative (alt) text to explain what they are

  • using a consistent and predictable ​layout throughout the site;

  • ensuring the website can be navigated by the keyboard alone;

  • that all content is able to be zoomed;

  • using descriptive heading and link text;

  • ensuring hyperlinks are clearly visually detectable;

  • ensuring hyperlinks and form elements have a focus indicator;

  • ensuring on-site forms are accessible;

  • adding descriptive text for screen readers for clarity where needed.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of My Home, My Way website relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML

  • WAI-ARIA

  • CSS

  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Limitations and Known Issues

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of My Home, My Way website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

  • Captions and transcripts may be unavailable on some of the videos accessible on the website.  

  • Audio captions may be unavailable on some of the videos on the website as they were produced well before accessibility standards were introduced.

  • Archived documents: might not work with current assistive technologies because they use outdated technologies that do not support accessibility.
